Longhorn to Include RSS Capabilities

June 25th, 2005 @ 12:08:07 PM

Microsoft Corp. said Friday that the next version of its Windows operating system will have built-in support for Internet data feeds, an increasingly popular way to get news and other information channeled straight to a computer.

RSS, short for Really Simple Syndication, hasn’t broken into widespread use yet, but the world’s largest software maker believes it will become a mainstay.

“We really believe that RSS is key to how people will be using the Internet in the future,” said Megan Kidd, a Windows product manager.

-Microsoft is really on the ball with this one. I mean right out in front of the curve. I heard the makers of Firefox were said to have responded with a “yawn”.

June 13th, 2005 @ 6:19:45 PM

I never noticed this before and Csara failed to mention to me that she suggested Subway should add shredded carrots to their toppings list on 01-30-2003.

Well guess what, someone was listening. Subway added shredded carrots between 2003 and 2005. We failed to notice this correlation before.

Well Mr. Pink Called It, Jacko is free!

Fans and friends of Michael Jackson rejoiced on Monday after a jury acquitted the pop star of child molestation charges in a trial that has captivated the world.

The innocent verdict was carried live across television screens from California to Croatia.

“I can’t believe it, I’m just so pleased I’m lost for words!” Uri Geller, Jackson’s psychic friend in Britain, told The Associated Press. “I’m trembling, this is so important. He did not let down his fans and all the people that love him.”

Jackson was found innocent of molesting a 13-year-old cancer survivor, giving the boy alcohol and conspiring to imprison his accuser and the boy’s family at his estate.

“He went through hell and now the nightmare is over,” Geller said.

As the jury indicated they had reached a decision Monday, British news channels streamed live coverage of the scene outside the court in Santa Maria, Calif.

Interest stretched to the Middle East, with Arab news channels al-Jazeera and al-Arabiya cutting to live footage as Jackson arrived at the courthouse for the verdict.

“The minutes before the verdict were the most nervous moments of my life. Now, these are the happiest moments of my life,” said Kent Vilhemsson, 21, watching from Skovde, Sweden.

In Germany, several news channels carried the verdict live, and the top-selling Bild newspaper quickly posted the headline “Acquittal!” on its Web site.

–I think people like Michael Jackson more overseas. In the US his popularity has been on a steady decline for years.

Japan has taken a step into the science-fiction world with the release of a “robot suit” that can help workers lift heavy loads or assist people with disabilities climb stairs.

“Humans may be able to mutate into supermen in the near future,” said Yoshiyuki Sankai, professor and engineer at Tsukuba University who led the project.

Robot Suit for humans

The 15-kilogram (33-pound) battery-powered suit, code-named HAL-5, detects muscle movements through electrical-signal flows on the skin surface and then amplifies them.

It can also move on its own accord, enabling it to help elderly or handicapped people walk, developers said.
