The Turin Games (http://www.gwar.net/) are a sensitive brother / sister act from Scandinavia. Sounding somewhat like an acoustic version of the Smiths, they concentrate on women's issues and the environment. Their lyrics show great facility with their adopted language, but a close listen reveals that they are uncomfortable with English metre - not that their legion of teenage fans in America notice.

What's a pop band got to do with sports?
Yours, slightly more than normally, confused,

Turin games aka the Winter Olympics? In Turino, Italy? Often referred to as Turin instead of Turino? Don't know if its just Europeans that refer to Turino as Turin or the rest of the world vs the US.

Funny you should mention this, Sensei. Last Friday I was at a cocktail party here in Belgium, and I struck up a conversation with a Belgian woman. We got to talking about the best cities we have ever lived in. Of course I praised Toronto and Bangkok (actually, 'Krung Thep' to the Thais). She raved about Turin. But the funny thing is, she said it very funny - it came out nothing like Turino, more like Durina, and even though I knew she was talking about an Italian city, I had no idea what one. Finally I asked her, and she gave me look like she thought I was a silly American. "You know, Turin" she said.
So it's a pop band from Turin who keep fit through a healthy and keen interest in a wide variety of sporting activities and they compete in the Winter Olympics?
And they sound like The Smiths?
I'm still rather confused - but that isn't anything new, to be honest.
Regards,
Bit.
