There might be some purists in the sport of American Baseball that say Pete Rose's betting on sports tarnished the sport. but I think that team owners locking out players over contract negotiations was more of a slap in the face to the fans who pay their salaries.
Me, personally, I feel there are few who did more for popularizing the sport to the American public than Pete. I feel he should be released from his lifetime ban and put on the ballot for HOF. I bet he'd make it first shot. And I doubt he's the first to do it or the last. And betting on games is far from as shameful as corking bats, narcotic use by the same stars that have had their faces on the box of Wheaties, beating up your wife/significant other.
I think Pete will come to a compromise with the commissioner to lower the lifetime ban and get him on the ballot.
