I thought that there was supposed to be a 1000 year window on this prediction ...

That said, i've been through Naples on my way to Pompei (and Vesuvius), although I did not stop in Naples.

I gotta get to southern Italy before Vesuvius covers it in lava and ash.

I did northern/central Italy(not enough) but not Southern.

Currently learning Italian though for when I return.

I can recommend Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast. Nice easy coach trip to Vesuvius. Get a boat day trip to the Island of Capri. One of my favourite ever European weeks vacation. People great and location great. Perfect!

sorrento is amazing - i agree. i had some of the most delicious pasta i have ever eaten there. simple, with tomato sauce and olive oil. with a large jug of delicious table wine. practically in the shadow of vesuvius. what a place!
