Post Dirty Secret Of Kyoto Treaty

Quote:
Here is an interesting article where Cait Murphy, points out some interesting facts about The Kyoto Treaty and how much America is hated for avoiding it, but in reality, other countries should harbor blame just as much.

But is it? Take a close squint at the numbers, and frankly it looks as if many of the countries that did sign Kyoto share Bush's concern that the economic pain might outweigh the green gain.

Look at those nice people north of the border: Canada agreed to cut emissions by 6 percent. Whoops. The country is running 24 percent ahead, a lot more than the United States, which is 15.8 percent above 1990 levels. Japan has the same 6 percent target, and is also missing big, by about 13 percent.

--Are you shocked Canadians?

of course not. i did not look at the numbers, but i know from the BBC that Germany has practically killed its commitment to kyoto. kyoto was always pure window dressing. worse than that: it was simply a big international conference in which the world's bureaucrats play environmental saviours while flying first class, and staying at 5 star hotels. Ever wonder about the environmental footprint of air-travel and 5 star hotels?

but the hard numbers are fascinating, nonetheless.

This isn't really anything new. The NDP was at the Liberal Party's throat during the election over it.

Yes, but the US takes alot of shit for not agreeing worldwide regardless of the fact that other countries also give a big middle finger to whole ordeal, yet don't follow what they signed up for.

Oh I sound very pro-US here, but I'm really just pissed off at everywhere else. Particularly Japan, because they put up a stink about it and because I was just there .

why do you care so much what others think of you and your country? your glorious leader does not. besides, if you are doing what's right, everybody else must be wrong.

Well I like to be loved not hated. My leader is far from glorious and hes really not "my" leader. I didn't vote for him and I tried to convince others not to either, but that didn't work.

you're still responsible for your leader, because he's your leader. that's the thing about democracy:we agree to be lead, even by those we did not choose, but by someone elected by our fellow citizens, whose choice we respect.

Everything is true, except the respect part. That word should be replaced with accept.
