Sara Lee and Kraft Getting Into Prepared Salad Game

March 28th, 2007 @ 8:00:27 AM

Currently the top prepared salad companies are (in my neck of the woods) Fresh Express and Dole. You know what I’m talking about. Caesar by the bag, Mixed greens in plastic, or just straight up shredded lettuce. Its convenience man and its a big trend.

This audio clip talks about Kraft and Sara Lee getting into the game.

What are some international prepared salad brands? How popular are they where you live? Do you see this trend continuing?

Rumor: Iran Fired On US Navy Ship

March 27th, 2007 @ 8:31:20 PM

Oil stood $1 higher at $64 a barrel on Wednesday, with traders still rattled by a rumour — quickly dismissed by U.S. officials — that some sort of conflict had broken out between the United States and Iran.

U.S. crude prices jumped to a more than six-month high of $68.09 a barrel in after-hours trade late on Tuesday, but quickly fell back to stand at $63.97 a barrel by 0027 GMT, up $1.04 from Tuesday’s close. Oil rose just 2 cents in normal trade a day ago.

In London, Brent crude was up $1.02 to $65.62 a barrel, extending a six-day rally that has added $5.50.

Oil surged $5 late on Tuesday evening on rumours of an unspecified conflict between Western forces and Iran, the world’s fourth-largest oil exporter, which has been under mounting world pressure to abandon its nuclear programme.

U.S. officials knocked down any talk of military action.

“We have no information at this time that indicates any incident taking place,” said White House National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe.

Airbus A380

March 27th, 2007 @ 12:56:48 PM

I want to talk about this plane, mainly because I’m interested in the plane. However, I haven’t kept up with ICI and posting about the recent trips the A380 made to the US, landing in New York and Los Angeles.

I ripped this from the DenverPost:

Denver was not on the U.S. itinerary, but before the jets could land on a regular basis, the airport would require improvements on the airfield and in the concourse at a cost of $13.8 million.

“We’d have to make improvements to the jetway system,” said DIA spokesman Chuck Cannon. “We’d have to add a second deck - we could do that for pretty minimal cost.”

Improvements would include another jetway on the mezzanine level for double-decker loading.

Taxiway shoulders would need to be widened and signs would need to be moved, which could be done for about $9 million. Upgrading the passenger-loading bridges on two gates would cost about $4.8 million, according to DIA and a U.S. Government Accountability Office report last year. The work would take about 18 months.

The A380 supposedly will require airports considerable amounts of money to handle this large plane, however, Denver seems like it can handle it quite easily on the cheap.

Which American airline will be the first to purchase an Airbus A380? I’m thinking whoever is first with China routes. United?

Is Iran Backed Into a Corner On Nuclear Program?

March 26th, 2007 @ 10:42:24 AM
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is lashing out at the U.N. Security Council for tightening sanctions on the country over its nuclear program.Speaking in Tehran Sunday night, Ahmadinejad said sanctions requiring Iran to give the International Atomic Energy Agency six months’ notice of any nuclear activity is illegal and wouldn’t stop the nuclear program “even for a second,” the Fars news agency reported.

In an interview published Monday in Germany’s Spiegel magazine, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki also said the U.N. move was illegal and said the nuclear bickering had a precedent, the IRNA news agency reported.

“Iran was in the process of completing the nationalization of its oil industry. The beginning of this nationalization process was the subject of debate in the Security Council 50 years ago,” Mottaki said. “It too was seen as a threat to peace and stability at the time, which of course was absurd.”

To Google and Gmail Coders

March 22nd, 2007 @ 8:01:57 PM

Thank you so much for what you do with Gmail. I really love the service. I’m writing this today to tell you how much I like that rotating ad at the top of my inbox. Although you give a $h%load of exposure to Engadget, I want to thank you for rotating in some stuff like this.

I always seem to screw up these two buttons when calculating whatever it is I’m calculating.

PS Don’t change a thing. Good luck with the lawsuit. Have a great summer.

Prediction: Rumor Will Come True

January 23rd, 2007 @ 12:25:03 AM

The internet is abuzz about  the possibility of , my favorite band of all time,  “The Police,” reuniting this year  and doing a world tour.  Its the 30th anniversary of the Roxanne release which  made them popular in the  states way back when.

Currently there is alot of misplaced tidbits, but I found some interesting congruencies.

1. This
2. Sting has nothing to do on Grammy night.

3. Sting is done with his European concerts by mid March. By this time the ticket pre sales should be doing nicely and then they start their touring.

I’ll be there, wherever that may be. Hmm, maybe I could follow the band like alot of Dead Heads do?

Bird Flu Back: In Japan

January 18th, 2007 @ 9:19:11 PM

The bird flu path is shaping up. They said it would get to Japan then the migratory birds would fly to Alaska and then through Canada. Then finally down to California and possibly spread to the east coast of the US.

The avian influenza that broke out last week at a poultry farm in Miyazaki Prefecture involved a highly virulent virus, the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry said Thursday.

The National Institute of Animal Health, which identified the virus as the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain on Tuesday, drew the conclusion after eight chickens inoculated with the sampled virus were dead by Thursday, the ministry said.

Based in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, the institute will continue genetic analysis for the consideration of the ministry’s panel of experts.

The H5N1 strain, a subtype of the influenza A virus circulating basically in birds, has spread mainly in Asia and has killed more than 160 people in 10 countries since 2003, according to the World Health Organization.
